Digression #7

Expanding on the exhibition Volltreffer! (“Bullseye!”) the Caricature Museum Krems shows work by Gerhard Haderer from the state of Lower Austria’s collections.

Haderer achieved great fame with his political cartoons. These have been published since 1985 in various print media, including the magazine “Profil”, Oberösterreichische Nachrichten (the Upper Austrian News) and the German weekly magazine “Stern”.

Haderer's ingenious cartoons - usually done in acrylic ink and perfected artistically down to the smallest detail - skilfully hold up their mirror to society, exposing abuses and thoughts of omnipotence. The Austrian artist’s work can be understood as an account of taboos and double standards, but also as a chronicle of past years with all their highlights, adversities and scandals.

Curator: Gottfried Gusenbauer, artistic director of the Caricature Museum Krems
