Veritable treats of Austrian caricature await visitors in the exhibition "The Immortal Austrian"!

Viennese “Gemütlichkeit” (comfort), Mozartkugel chocolates, Empress Sisi and the grouchiness the Viennese are notorious for are as much a part of Austria as mélange coffee is part of the old Viennese coffee houses. Alpine-hut frolics, Viennese Schnitzel and tavern culture are what make landlocked Austria shine in its best light, were it not for its shortcomings. Shortcomings or self-defined qualities - where does the difference lie anyway?

"Typically Austria" in over 120 pictures
The exhibition, with more than 120 originals by 30 artists, takes a look at common clichés, socio-political events and the scandals of Austria's recent past. Manfred Deix has transferred the Austrian soul onto paper like no other. Caricature Museum Krems shows the artist’s cartoons that deal with the Austrian broadcast channel ORF’s show "Seitenblicke", as well as those about Arnold Schwarzenegger and also some that examine Austria's Nazi past. Bernd Ertl's figures from the Rainhard Fendrich musical "I Am From Austria" are brilliant. Bruno Haberzettl highlights a product of the Corona Age, a newly emerged form of life named "Homo officensis" - half-dressed creatures with children breathing down their necks. Also on show are originals by the winners of the Lower Austrian Culture Prize, from the field of Caricature 2022. Portraits by Erich Sokol – for instance, Emperor Franz Joseph as a symbol of old Austria - and by Max Jurasch – for instance, Sebastian Kurz viewed from behind with his fingers crossed behind his back - form the framework of the exhibition "The Immortal Austrian" at the Caricature Museum Krems.
