SOKOL prize winners

Drum roll for the Erich Sokol prize winners!
On the occasion of Erich Sokol’s 90th birthday (1933 – 2003), visitors can view the 2018 and 2023 SOKOL Prize winners in the Caricature Museum Krems’ exhibition "The Award Goes To ...". The SOKOL - Award for Digital Caricature, Critical Illustration and Satire mirrors artist Erich Sokol’s great achievements and points towards the artist’s media-intertwined, modern working method. For the second time since 2018, the Caricature Museum Krems and the province of Lower Austria, will honor outstanding, artistic achievements in 2023.

Big names at the Caricature Museum Krems
The SOKOL Appreciation Award 2023 goes to Gerald Scarfe, the British cartoonist who you’ll know for his work on the Disney animated film "Hercules" and the Pink Floyd project "The Wall". The latter project is featured in the form of a selection of pictures in the Krems Caricature Museum. Sebastian Krüger’s (SOKOL Award Winner 2018) large-format, photo-realistic portraits appear deceptively real, whilst Thomas Fluharty's (SOKOL Main Award 2018) picture of Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un as sumo wrestlers is bound to make you smile. Also being exhibited: Originals by Frank Hoppmann, Nadia Khiari and Ramize Erer, the other 2018 SOKOL Prize winners. The winners of the SOKOL Main Prize, SOKOL Promotion Prize and the AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria 2023 programme scholarships will be announced at the award ceremony on March 10th.

Curator: Gottfried Gusenbauer, Artistic Director of the Caricature Museum Krems
